Join us to help build the future of game based learning!

About Legends of Learning

The Legends of Learning platform is a marketplace with 2000+ educational games used by over 5M students in 50K schools and growing fast. We are also the creators of Awakening, a 3D multiplayer adventure learning game for iOS/Android/Web. We have headquarters in Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, MD. Our engineering and game studio teams are fully remote.

Our server tech stack currently includes: C# / .NET microservices and APIs, Elixir/Phoenix application servers, Postgres, Redis, Kubernetes, Docker, DataDog, and AWS. Our client tech stack includes Unity, React, Typescript, iOS and Android. We are currently evaluating Rust and continually adding to our stack as we expand our services and capabilities.

About This Position

The Backend Server Engineer will architect and develop new features to improve and expand our game based learning experience. This person will work closely with both the game studio and the platform engineering team, providing multiplayer messaging to support both gameplay and teacher-driven learning activities. This role will work with the lead server architect to optimize microservices for high throughput and low latency, as well as develop RESTful API services for game features. As a member of the engineering team, this person will participate in a lean agile development process including daily standups, software design, occasional pair programming, effective testing and code review, CI/CD, feature flagging, and application performance monitoring. While most of this person’s work will initially center around C#, Postgres and Kubernetes, they will also be evaluating and/or implementing Rust and other new technologies as improvements to our tech stack.

This position will have competitive compensation, stock options, US employee benefits, and flexibility in work hours and locations.
