Your students love playing video games, and we know games can be an amazing learning tool. But, have your students thought about designing their own learning game before? Now is their chance!
In the Game-Based Learning Design Competition, students from around the world will compete to help design the next great learning games.
About the Competition
Students can work in teams of 1 to 5 people to submit their idea for a game to help teach one of four available topics. The underlying curriculum that the students are required to teach in their game is provided below. Students will not be required to build the game themselves, rather they will prepare an initial game design document on a template provided below.
What is the purpose of the game? Who are the characters? What is the art and music involved? Students will put forth their best ideas and a panel of judges will pick two winners. Those winners will then work with real game developers to discuss their game vision!
Students must coordinate with their teacher in order to participate. Participants should carefully review the rules of the competition in the “Instructions and Design Document” below. Questions regarding the competition can be submitted by email to events@legendsoflearning.com.
Timeline
The competition will formally open on May 1st, 2020 with the posting of the design document and related curriculum materials.
