Concepts Covered

Describe the relationship between the coordinates of the image and the pre-image under rigid motions. Dilations do not change angles. All lengths of line segments in the plane are scaled by the same factor when we apply a dilation. Dilations scale distances between points. Dilations of the same shape are similar. Dilations are transformations that expand or contract the plane of a given figure.

Describe the effects of dilating a figure using a scale factor. Describe the effects of rotating a figure using coordinates. Describe the effects of reflecting a figure over the x- or y-axis.
