Terms and Rules in Numerical Patterns Math Games

3 games

In this series of games, your students will learn to generate two numerical patterns using two given rules. The Terms and Rules in Numerical Patterns learning objective — based on CCSS and state standards — delivers improved student engagement and academic performance in your classroom, as demonstrated by research. This learning objective directly references 5.OA.B.3 as written in the common core national math standards.

Concepts Covered

Generate two numerical patterns using two given rules. The patterns can be shown in tables. Articulate mathematical descriptions of number patterns. Identify relationships between corresponding terms in their patterns. Use the apparent relationship between two patterns to form corresponding terms and use the corresponding terms as ordered pairs on a coordinate plane. Graph ordered pairs from corresponding terms in given patterns to show relationships. Extrapolate the relationship to the nth term. Reason repeatedly to ensure that rules are consistent. Explain why patterns observed in corresponding pairs of two given patterns relate using a graph and mathematical reasoning.
