Fluently Add Or Subtract Within 1000 Math Games
In this series of games, your students will learn to fluently add and subtract within 1000 using strategies and algorithms based on place value. The Fluently Add Or Subtract Within 1000 learning objective — based on CCSS and state standards — delivers improved student engagement and academic performance in your classroom, as demonstrated by research. This learning objective directly references 3.NBT.A.2 as written in the common core national math standards.

Place value in base ten groups numbers in bundles of 10’s with each place value being 10 of the prior unit. While moving to the right across the places in a number the digits represent smaller units. Position the unknown quantity on the left and right side of the equal sign. Use written methods without concrete models.
Use algorithms for addition and subtraction that allow for scholars to regroup place value when necessary. Use properties to determine sums and differences. There is not one preferred algorithm or property, all are viable solution options. Standard focuses on fluency to find the solution, not a particular method.
