Concepts Covered

Moving objects contain energy. The energy of motion is a kind of mechanical energy. Motion is the change in the position of an object. The energy of motion is called kinetic energy. The energy transmitted by mechanical processes, light, sound, and electrical current can be used in many common applications.

Energy can be moved from place to place by moving objects. Energy can be moved from place to place by sound. Sound transmits energy through vibrations in materials. Energy can be moved from place to place by light. Light transmits energy through electromagnetic waves. Energy can be moved from place to place by electric currents. Electrical current transmits energy through moving electric charges. Waves transmit energy from one location to another, but they do not transmit matter.
